Welcome to the Hastings, Bexhill & Rye Methodist Circuit

God's love for all

Learn more about our mission

Welcome to the Hastings, Bexhill and Rye Methodist Circuit.

We are a group of eleven Methodist churches on the coast of East Sussex, serving a mix of rural and town communities, and also including the historic chapel of Winchelsea where John Wesley preached in 1789.

We believe in relevant, inclusive worship and generous hospitality, seeking to share God's love with everyone and making a God-centred difference to the communities of which we are a part. Our churches are open to all and aim to be spaces where people can make friends with others and be friends with God.

We would be delighted to see you at any of our activities. Meanwhile, please do take time to look around and see what we are up to, join our email list or follow us on Facebook.

Our faith

We believe and trust in God, who loves us all.

We believe and trust in Jesus, who showed us what love means.

We believe and trust in the Holy Spirit, who helps us to love in return.

Welcome

Hello! My name is Ian Couchman and I am delighted to be taking over as superintendent of the Hastings, Bexhill and Rye circuit from the Revd Philip Wagstaff. I look forward to sharing in the journey I know God has in store for us over the coming years.

I look forward to getting to know the area and the people I will journey alongside. I know in this circuit there is an experienced team, both lay and ordained, who will keep me on the straight and narrow and I look forward to working with them.

I moved here with Pam, my wife, from West Sussex. We have 5 grandchildren spread around the South East who we look forward to introducing to the delights of the area.

Please look at the website and explore what wonderful things are happening in the churches. I know you will receive a warm welcome wherever you choose to visit.

Prayer of the day

Help me to meet you today, Lord,

in the one I share a joke with,
in the one who takes time to listen to my grumbles,
in the one I would rather avoid talking to,
in the one who needs a hand.

May I recognize you in all your children and act accordingly.

Amen.

David Walton
